Spence Folio

Privacy policy

Effective 29 September 2026

Spence Folio is a private vault for photos, videos and files on iPhone and iPad, made by Misha Spence (Spence.Studio). The short version: I collect nothing, and nothing leaves your device unencrypted.

What I collect

Nothing. Spence Folio has no accounts, no servers of mine, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. I never see your files, your password or how you use the app.

What stays on your device

Everything you add is encrypted on your device with AES-256 before it is stored, under keys derived from your password or PIN. Without your password, PIN or recovery method, nobody — including me — can read it.

The app keeps a record of failed unlock attempts (the time, the method and how many) inside the encrypted vault, to show you the next time you unlock.

iCloud backup (optional)

If you turn on iCloud backup, encrypted copies of your vault are stored in the private database of your own iCloud account. Apple stores them under your iCloud terms; they stay encrypted with keys I never have. You can turn backup off and remove it in the app's settings.

Permissions

  • Photos — to import the items you choose, and, only if you ask the app to delete originals after importing, to remove them.
  • Face ID or Touch ID — handled entirely by iOS; the app only learns whether the check succeeded.
  • Notifications — optional, and they never contain file names, counts or previews.

Password managers

If you use a password manager, iOS may offer to save or fill your vault password. That exchange is between you and your password manager; the app receives only the password you choose to fill.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple. I do not receive your payment details.

Crash reports

If you choose in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass me crash reports. They describe the crash, never your files or your password.

Deleting your data

“Erase this vault” in the app's settings destroys the keys and the data on your device, and can remove the iCloud backup too. Deleting the app removes the vault from the device.

Children

Spence Folio is not directed at children, and it collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with its effective date.
